Following the seeming approval of the Governor Olusegun Mimiko faction of the Ondo State PDP by President Goodluck Jonathan and the party’s national executive, aggrieved billionaire cum politician Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim has been fingered internally as being the one that persuaded the top members of the PDP in the state to cross-carpet to the APC. Global News gathered from a reliable source in Ondo State that on Wednesday, 14th of January 2015, the aggrieved members took to the streets of Akure for a defection rally where they made their intention known to the state governor and his PDP cohorts. Those who decamped to the APC as at the time of this report included all the former speakers of the State House of Assembly, five serving state commissioners, eight local government chairmen, councilors and many other top members. However, we also gathered that other big fishes said to have left the PDP for the APC are the former Chief of Staff to the late Governor Olusegun Agagu, Femi Agagu and former speaker Victor Olabimtan who is a director in President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation and also a current member of the Federal Civil Service Commission. What is, however, baffling is the rumour spreading around town that billionaire businessman and PDP stalwart Jimoh Ibrahim is fingered to be the one responsible for the mega defection. It could be recalled that prior to the emergence of the Mimiko faction of the PDP as the authentic faction in the state as declared by both the PDP national headquarters and the Presidency, there was a running battle between the duo of Mimiko and Ibrahim who all presented different candidates for the party’s primaries. This move by the Presidency, however, must have infuriated the Energy Group boss who has never been in good terms with the state governor.
We also gathered authoritatively that this defection earthquake has forced Jonathan Campaign Organisation to cancel his campaign in Akure, the Ondo State capital in the interim due to the fact that the rally would be very scanty as a result of the defection.
