Aftermath of NUC Approval Delay, Pastor Ashimolowo’s Kings University Gradually Fades Off …The Aregbesola Connection
Few weeks back, your soar-away magazine brought a report that the newly established Kings University , Ode-Omu in Osun State, owned by the Kings International Christian Centre (KICC) senior pastor, Matthew Ashimolowo was being delayed its operational instruments by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC). However, some informants who are always prowling the university’s campus area and who are deeply in the know about activities going on in the campus told us that if the ivory tower’s management did not do anything to intervene in the matter, the school will simply lose its beauty.
A visit to the campus by our reporter some months back indicated that Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo must have lavished billions of naira on the project judging by facilities, hostels, school’s senate and the overall classical and international standard architectural designs of the buildings. Also some months back, we gathered that there were some illegal dealings in the school. Some newly employed lecturers who we scooped resumed duties before the admission of students were alleged to be demanding for bribes in order to ensure that those who did not choose Kings University as either their first or second choice got assistance from them.
Parents and guardians were said to have kicked against this and it allegedly affected the prompt take-off of the university. A source who is familiar with the politics of Osun State also informed us that the delay in the approval of Kings University’s operation might have been due to politics going on in the state. Some tatafos are alleging that the closeness between Matthew Ashimolowo and ex-governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola when he was in power may have affected the university somehow. The source scooped that the incumbent governor of the state Rauf Aregbesola was aware of the mutual relationship between Ashimolowo and Oyinlola when he (Aregbesola) was struggling to take over power from Oyinlola. The source alleged that Ashimolowo was highly respected in Ode-Omu community and those in the know affirmed that top political players like the late former chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Alhaji Ademola Rasaq Adelowo popularly known as Landero, former minister of Youths Development and one-time senator, Akinlabi Olasunkanmi and other powerful politicians from Ode-Omu are all aware of the spiritual prowess bestowed on the punk hairstyle-wearing man of God.
Another source hinted us that due to this political wrangling, the governor, Aregbesola who commenced the construction of the Gbongan-Osogbo Expressway two years back, suddenly decided to halt the rehabilitation of the road in the Ode-Omu axis, very close to the Kings University. The question, however, on the lips of the road’s regular users is, was the governor trying to pay back Ashimolowo in his own coins? Anyway, that is left for them to resolve if such ever occurs. But, what is baffling to us is that the negligence of the university gate’s portion of the road is affecting the beauty of the gate of the school.
