Professor of Law and Vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo Turns Errand Boy In Aso Rock!
In this part of the world, every reasonable human being knows that power is good and that no matter how rich one is, without power and influence, one is not yet complete. This is one reason people, most especially the black race love being in power and holding up to a top political position. Some African leaders have been in power for donkey years without planning to relinquish it to younger generations.
Prior to the selection of former Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, a professor of Law, many Nigerians were confused about who would emerge as the number two citizen of the country. Different names kept cropping up then with the likes of Rotimi Amaechi, Rochas Okorocha, Kayode Fayemi, Raji Fashola and even Bola Tinubu topping the list of would-be vice-president then. After rigorous debate across the nation and in the political firmament, Professor Yemi Osinbajo suddenly erupted from the dark and emerged the running mate of President Mohammadu Buhari. However, some experienced political watchers are of the view that no right-thinking president-to-be would pick from any of Amaechi, Fashola, Okorocha and Tinubu knowing their political antecedents and the huge crowd they pull in their various constituencies.
Moreover, for now, the issue at stake is that the vice-president, Osinbajo has gradually been relegated to a mere ‘errand boy’ in Aso Rock as he has been handed the responsibility of attending to issues that are unimportant to the Presidency. Although, the president Mohammadu Buhari has not selected ministers to oversee government agencies and parastatals, the task of seeing to the smooth running of governance in Aso Rock on daily basis has fallen on Ikenne-born Osinbajo who now attends various meetings with different categories of visitors to the Aso Villa. Penultimate week, chieftains of the National Road Transport Workers who should have been attended to by either a permanent secretary or a director in the Federal Ministry of Transport were received by Osinbajo to the surprise of many Nigerians who believe that the VP must have been jobless to have time for such a meeting. It is not that the top men of the NURTW are not worth attending to by the VP, but people are of the view that the present situation of Nigeria should be given more stringent attention by both the president and the vice president.
In addition, Osinbajo is also bestowed the responsibility of paying condolence visit to affected areas whenever the Boko Harram terrorists attack. He has been to Borno, Yobe, Jos, etc,. to condole with victims and affected families of the insurgents’ devilish acts whereas the president himself junkets to peaceful countries like the United States of America, the United Kingdom and perhaps Benin Republic, Chad, Cameroon, Niger for peaceful talks and ‘how to end the Boko Harram bombings’. A closer look at Professor Yemi Osinbajo shows that he always looks tired and weak. This must have been as a result of huge responsibility placed on him. Recall that during the reigns of former President Goodluck Jonathan, the then vice president Namadi Sambo almost became a second fiddle to the likes of ex-finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala whom many Nigerians mockingly referred to as the country’s vice president due to the many roles she was allowed to play including those that were outside her jurisdiction and now President Buhari is already showing similar traits to his VP as he has allegedly granted him tasks that are below his personality and standard.
Global News believes that the likes of APC national chairman, Chief John Oyegun and leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu are observing this move by the Presidency which may probably be targeted at the Asiwaju himself as one of the ways to get rid of his godfather image out of Aso Rock.
