GLO PLANS TO DEAL WITH COMPETITORS…TO REDUCE DATA PRICE BY HALF
The purported plans of the telecoms giant Glo to ridiculously reduce the data plans across the board and put smiles on the faces of Nigerians this Yuletide is facing a lot of blockages from the regulator- the Nigeria ‘s Communications Commission and its competitors in the telecommunications industry.Glo which has rightly positioned itself as the undisputed number one telecoms company that gives the best in terms of data pricing and connectivity because of its massive investment in the area may not be able to go ahead with its planned pleasant surprise for its subscribers because of the lobbying of some of its competitors and their collaborators.Unknown to many in the country but only Telecom experts and inside sources at Glo’s head office in Lagos, the company is the only telecommunications company offering pure 4g LTE experience for subscribers in Nigeria because of what its founder and Chief Executive, Otunba Mike Adenuga Jr. has invested in the technology that powers the 4g experience. And as a matter of fact, Adenuga had planned to reward Glo’s subscribers with a Yuletide gift package aimed at putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians. But when competitors got wind of the planned unique offering to customers being planned by Glo, they quickly hatched their plans which according to another source inside NCC, they quickly approached and lobbied the Commission which is the regulator to join hands with them in making sure that Glo does not succeed in bringing down the prices of data to rock bottom as doing it would seriously lead to their subscribers migrating en masse to Glo network which has been adjudged by industry watchers and experts as the best network for data pricing and connectivity. We also gathered that Glo competitors who are seriously milking their subscribers with high data tariffs and below par services did not stop there. A reliable source at the National Assembly informed our sources how some of them came to lobby the headship of the country’s bi-camera Assembly to do everything in its power toblock Glo from cutting into their profit as their operating costs have skyrocketed because of the present harsh economic realities. Meanwhile , both Nigerian Communications Commission and the National Assembly have reportedly come up with measures to stop the telecoms giant (Glo) from its bid to give Nigerians a reason to be happy this Yuletideand beyond. It might also interest you to know that the National Assembly shelved its purported plans to give telcos the leeway and the constitutional backing to hike data plans from the 1st December 2016 due to pressures from the likes of Glo Chairman and others who reasoned that the hike in data prices would mean snuffing life out of subscribers who are already paying too much for goods and services.Even with the attacks and dirty maneuverings from other competitors of Glo in the telecommunications industryand indeed the industry regulator , we gathered that Glo is poised to reduce its data charges across the board as soon as possible because he is moved by the untold hardship Nigerians are currently going through.
