COLLAPSED REIGNERS CHURCH : BEREAVED FAMILIES THREATEN TO SUE UDOM EMMANUEL
The unfortunate incident of Reigners Bible Church which happened last Saturday may have come and gone but it has left indelible marks on the tenure of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State Udom Emmanuel who is still reeling from the aftershocks of the unfortunate incident which reportedly sent well over two hundred worshippers to their early graves.According to Global News sources in Uyo, Governor Udom Emmanuel was still awestruck by the sad incident and too shocked to comprehend anything until Monday which was two days after the Saturday incident was reportedly wondering how the Church collapsed on everyone when the choir was singing praise and worship songs without any prior notice.Meanwhile, according to Global News investigation, scores of immediate family members and relatives of those who lost their lives have registered their displeasure with the way their loved ones lost their lives which according to them was tragic and beyond comprehension. We gathered that some of the family members and relatives of the bereaved have written petitions to Governor Emmanuel demanding answers to the question of what went wrong and if indeed safety standards were compromised due to the fact that the building work of thecollapsed church auditorium was hurriedly done just few weeks before the incident. It was also gathered that some of these family members are threatening to sue Reigners Bible Church, Pastor Akan Weeks and Governor Udom Emmanuel who is said to be very close confidant of Bishop Akan Weeks. On why Udom Emmanuel may be joined in the suit, one of them who spoke on the condition of anonymity hinted that his family had already spoken to their family lawyer and he (the solicitor) said his late brother came to the church on Governor’s invitation and as such the Governor may be dragged into the suit as one of the defendants. We have also been reliably informed that some family members of the bereaved are trying to milk the situation by demanding outright compensation from the government of Udom Emmanuel because the governor is exploring all available avenues that will immediately divert people’s attention away from unfortunate incident and its attendant effects. We further learnt that even as the pastor in charge of the collapsed Reigners Bible a Church International, Apostle Akan Weeks last Monday, whilst speaking from his hospital bed attributed the incident to the handiwork of Satan, saying the battle was not about him and his church but between the kingdom of darkness and the church in the land. But many families of the deceased are not going to have that as they are now calling for his head, saying their loved ones would still be alive but for the collapsed church auditorium.Meanwhile, we also gathered the the Governor has written to all the families of the deceased to commiserate with them and assure them that the government of Akwa Ibom will make sure that each and everyone who died in the collapsed church auditorium will be compensated. You would recall that the consecration service of Weeks as Bishop was going on last Saturday the 10th of December when his church auditorium caved in on all the worshippers including the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel who was quickly rescued by his aides. Well over two hundred worshippers lost theirlives whilst many more sustained varying degrees of injuries.
