FASHOLA TURNS 3rd MAINLAND BRIDGE INTO A DEATH TRAP …AS CONTRACTOR ABANDONS REPAIRS
The Minister of Works and Housing Raji Fashola is currently having it rough with Lagosians especially those who ply third Mainland Bridge because of the current poor state of the bridge which is posing a big threat to the lives of road users.
As motorists and other road users groan due to the poor state of the third Mainland bridge which is the fourth longest bridge in the world, the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has come under heavy criticism from Lagosians over the abandonment of the repair works on the bridge and other adjoining roads.
The Agency, last month had begun repairs on both carriage ways of the Bridge, scrapping the asphalt on some section of the bridge, but had vacated site for over two weeks, leaving motorists and other road users to contend with the current poor state of the road which is now a big menace to everyone plying the bridge.
Motorists had attributed several accidents which had occurred on the Bridge in recent times to the uncoordinated method which FERMA employs in carrying out the repair works.
According to Global News sources, the contractor handling the repair of the bridge is yet to be mobilized the Agency which is directly under Babatunde Raji Fashola and with the March 31, 2017 date for the end of the implementation of the 2016 budget fast approaching, FERMA had hurriedly moved the contractor to site, however its failure to mobilize them has led to the repair works being stalled.
Some motorists in the State are now calling on the Minister of Works, Mr. Babatunde Fashola to rise up to the occasion and ensure that the Agency completes the repair works in order to save motorists from the stress they go through on a daily basis and the incessant accidents caused by the present poor state of the Bridge.
Meanwhile sources say the Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola who is currently seen in many quarters as one of Buhari’s Ministers that is struggling to hold his own in this administration because of the size of his portfolio and the enormity of what he met on his table is considering the total overhaul of the strategy and template he’s currently using which is not delivering the desired result.
