TEARS AND WAILING AS MOJI OLAIYA IS FINALLY LAID TO REST

The body of Moji Olaiya, the popular Nigerian actress who died last month in Canada
arrived Nigeria on Tuesday ahead of her funeral rites. And on the same day, a memorial service and artiste night was held for the late thespian at the premises of LTV Agidingbi, Ikeja

And on Wednesday June 7 after a brief lying-in-state, the late actress was committed to mother earth at Ebony Vault, Ikoyi Cemetery in Lagos with hundreds of mourners weeping uncontrollably at her graveside.
Many of Moji’s colleagues in the Nigerian film industry came to pay their last respect and virtually all of them could not hold back tears as soon as her body was lowered into the grave. Moji’s two-month-old daughter we gathered also made the trip back to Nigeria.
Some of the actors present at the burial include Faithia Balogun, Yomi Fabiyi, Prince Jide Kosoko, Adebayo Salami( Oga Bello), Iyabo Ojo, Taiwo Hassan(Ogogo), Yinka Quadri, Foluke Daramola, Bisi Ibidapo popularly known as Bisi “omo lo’gba lo’gba”
Recall that the actress passed away on May 17 after suffering a cardiac arrest in Canada. She had only been delivered of a baby girl two months earlier.
Moji was scheduled for burial the following day in compliance with Islamic rites. Her burial was however shelved at the last minute because her 18-year-old daughter insisted her body be returned to Nigeria.
Given the financial implications of flying her corpse back to Nigeria, her family, friends and colleagues sought the assistance of well-meaning Nigerians and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu offered to pay for the return of Moji’s body.

The untimely death of the actress sent shock waves across the Nigerian entertainment industry. Moji started her acting career when she took on a role as Ireti in a Wale Adenuga’s Super Story series “No Pain, No Gain.
She starred in several Nollywood films. She was known for her roles in films such as “Sunmibare” which was produced by Dimeji Ijaduade, No Pains No Gains, in which she played Ireti, Sade Blade (2005),Nkan adun (2008) and Omo Iya Meta Leyi (2009). She also starred in the Agunbaniro which earned her the Best New Actress Award. In 2016, Olaiya released a film, Iya Okomi that featured Foluke Daramola and Funsho Adeolu amongst others. The movie was premiered in Lagos in July 2016.
