UPDATE: Senator Dino Melaye Moved To DSS Medical Facility, Police Force Confirms

Masked persons suspected to be policemen have reportedly stormed the Police Clinic in Garki, Abuja, whisking away embattled Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye.

A close associate of the Kogi senator confirmed the evacuation to newsmen.

It was learnt that the evacuation of the lawmaker was carried out around 2:15 pm Friday in commando style.

It was learnt that the operatives planned to take the lawmaker to Lokoja, Kogi State, for interrogation over the alleged shooting of one Sgt. Danjuma Aliu by suspected political thugs.

But following public outcry, a source said, the policemen moved the lawmaker to the Department of State Services’ medical facility along Airport Road, Abuja.

ChannelsTV reported that Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Jimoh Moshood, confirmed Dino’s evacuation to DSS Clinic in Abuja to it in a telephone interview on Friday.

The Senator had claimed in an interview with journalists on Monday that he was not fit to travel to Lokoja where the case of culpable homicide was being investigated by the Kogi State Police Command.

He had requested to be transferred to Alliance Hospital or the National Hospital, Abuja, for better treatment; but the Police had rejected the idea, stating that the lawmaker was getting the right treatment at the Police clinic.

Melaye, who has been having a running battle with the Force, was rushed to the Police clinic for medical attention after he slumped last week Friday.

Before he was moved to the clinic after slumping, the lawmaker had barricaded himself in his house in Maitama, Abuja, for eight days, vowing never to give himself up for arrest.

When he was first contacted about the sudden evacuation of the Senator, the Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, said he would find out what the situation was and get back to our Correspondent.

He did not, however, provide any information on the development and subsequent calls to his line failed to connect
