Peter Obi visits Wike in Port Harcourt

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), visited Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, on Wednesday at his home in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital.

Obi was brought inside the governor’s house for a meeting behind closed doors.

Since media were not allowed access, the meeting’s specifics are unclear.

Dave Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State, also made Wike a “friendly and brotherly” visit four days prior to Obi’s visit.

Additionally, news reporters were not given access to the specifics of their private meeting.

Obi and Wike met as his party attempted to create a coalition with Rabiu Kwankwaso’s New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The NNPP has rejected claims that Kwankwaso, who has a large following in the North, would accept to serve as Obi’s running mate despite the fact that the negotiations have not yet been successful.

Major Agni, the NNPP’s spokesperson, told reporters on Tuesday that the former governor of Anambra State’s agreement to serve as the former Kano governor’s running mate was the only requirement for a coalition with the LP.

According to him, Kwankwaso is still the most palatable of the country’s presidential hopefuls from the various political parties.

The NNPP official stated that the party has still heard requests that Kwankwaso not stand down in favor of Obi, arguing that the most reasonable course of action is for Obi to accept Kwankwaso’s offer to serve as his deputy.

He stressed that his ancestors speak for him and that Kwankwaso has had an impact on everyday people’s lives, so he should be let to lead the LP/NNPP arrangement.

“We’ve still been getting calls. No, we won’t accept it, many individuals have contacted to say. The only inference we want you to draw is that Peter will serve as the deputy, he insisted.

He claimed that even though Obi was a “good man” who had achieved success, it was unacceptable for him to be in charge of any political deal made for the 2023 presidential race.
