Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun’s Number One Gubernatorial Opposition
The number one citizen in the gateway state, Governor Ibikunle Amosun is presently having sleepless nights. Why, one may ask. Gist merchants say his biggest concern is Ogun lawmaker, Hon Abiodun Akinlade. Political observers believe Akinlade who have won elections three times on the platform of the two major political parties, PDP and ACN, has more political experience and the wherewithal to send Amosun packing out of the government house. We also gathered that Akinlade has used his position as a federal lawmaker and chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology to secure employments for youths in his political constituency and all these are helping to position him for greater responsibilities in no distant time.
There are indications that the lawmaker representing Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency at the National Assembly has built a rising profile among the politicians and electorates in the gateway state. That he almost clinched the gubernatorial seat during the last election made him a contender to watch out for. From the look of things, the Abuja lawmaker will emerge the candidate to face in the 2015. Busybodies say the last Ojude Oba turned a field of contest for Hon. Akinlade and Governor Amosun. And we gathered Hon. Akinlade was received with accolades while Governor Amosun was received with cold treatment from the people of Yewa and Ijebu at the Ojude Oba festival.
Further digs also revealed the people of the Ogun East Senatorial District have not forgiven Governor Amosun for his decision to scrap the University of Education, the agro-cargo airport and his lackluster interest in the Olokola Free Trade Zone, all the projects sited in their domain. And another grievance the Ogun governor could be facing from the Ijebu is the way his deputy, who is highest political office holder from their area presently in Amosun’s cabinet, is treated.
