Oyo Governor Ajimobi Goofs: Asks Parents To Start Paying School Fees + How State Free School Transportation Turns Commercial
When the governor of Oyo State, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi was campaigning for a second term in office, he knew it would not be easy for him to get to the Agodi hot seat, considering the past history of the state where no one has ever reelected. Ajimobi, in a bid to ensure he got the votes of the people promised heaven and earth if elected. Part of his promises was to stop the payment of school fees for primary and secondary pupils and also drastically reduce the fees paid by tertiary institutions across the state.
On getting the vote of the people, Ajimobi changed gear and totally forgot his promises. The former senator is now demanding that parents should be paying school fees, saying this is aimed at helping the government to achieve its goal of ‘FREE EDUCATION’. This decision, of course, surprised the people who have asked what free in the education is.
Our correspondent also gathered that the shuttle bus meant to convey students to and from school on daily basis has allegedly been turned commercial. Students are now demanded to pay some certain amount of money to get to their homes from school. The government, however, is letting the citizenry know that running a state is not a joke as all the pre-election campaign promises made cannot be fulfilled as at the moment. Although Governor Ajimobi defended the reason for taking this step, the people are not satisfied with his excuses because they are of the belief that as long as they pay taxes, the government must in turn take care of some of their certain needs.
