WHY THE IGBO NATION IS PLANNING TO REVISIT “BIAFRA”
To say that Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder at the moment is nothing but an understatement owing to the ill-feelings of a larger percentage of Nigerians of Igbo extraction. The Igbo nation is not happy with the way things are going in this political arrangement called Nigeria and they are seriously considering revisiting “Biafra” and the factors that gave birth to the secession idea which was mooted and spearheaded by the late Ikemba of Nnewi, Odimegwu Ojukwu.
The plot is thickening by the day as many groups across the “Biafran” States aside from the Ohaneze N’digbo are daily mobilizing the people of the Igbo nation in Nigeria and the Diaspora on the way forward based on their ambition for self-determination. It is now an open secret that the Igbos are now very disillusioned with the treatment being meted to the South-Easterners in the political scheme of things in the country.
Global News has exclusively learnt that various interest groups in the South-East geo-political zone of the country have now making consultations across the length and breadth of Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the United States of America with the sole aim of galvanizing support for the self-Determination of the State of Biafra which late Odimegwu Ojukwu tried to achieve in 1967 but which was aborted by the Federal Government and which led to the first civil war in the African continent.
According to a source who is close a governor of one of the key States in the region, the proponents and financiers of the new secessionist idea of the Biafra State creation are more than ever bolstered by the different self-determination induced referendum being organized by different ethnic nationalities in many countries of the world at the moment.
The organizers amongst other things are complaining about the marginalization of the Igbo people and the Igbo nation from the scheme of things in the country and they argue this started about forty years ago and has been going on ever since. Also, the Igbo elite are now very disenchanted with the leadership of both the APC and the PDP because according to them, it is very obvious both parties have no agenda for the Igbo nation and her people.
The various groups covertly and openly agitating for the actualization of the State of Biafra like The Movement for The Actualization of The State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are working round the clock to ensure the State of Biafra is carved out of Nigeria in not too distant future as they believe achieving this would lead to the realization of the common ideals and values of the Igbo nation. Also the leaders of thought in the Igbo nation are not happy about the continued detention of IPOB Nnamidi Kanu who has also been denied of visitors at the Kuje Prison where he’s currently held.
They also believe the creation of the State of Biafra will speed up the development of the region which, according to them has not received proper attention from successive governments from the early 60s.
