Pastor, Eugene Ogu’s 419 Case- Police declares him innocent!
The storm cannot be said to be over yet in the case concerning popular Port Harcourt-based pastor, Apostle Eugene Ogu, the general overseer of Abundant Life Evangelistic Mission (ALEM), Rumumoi, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and a particular business partner of his in Europe, operating under the name, Globiz International Limited and represented by Engineer Larry Obasi, a Nigerian in the Diaspora who has lived in Czech Republic for like 25 years.
You will recall that, weeks back, we published a story credited to Obasi in which he accused Eugene of defrauding him and the company he represents to the tune of US $15 million and he has subsequently reported the case to the Nigeria police. Obasi did not stop at that, he took another step of reporting the case to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Obasi, however, started crying foul that he who happens to be the hunter is now the hunted as the whole case is now in favour of the powerful and influential pastor and the issue has been turned against him. He said the case he has been pursuing since December 2007 obviously is not heading anywhere and it appears that he is being persecuted and frustrated into forgetting about the case.
Reacting to the story however, Eugene through a police report made available to Global News said he has no case to answer. The police report signed by CSP Umar Musa Muri, the assistant commissioner of police, ‘D’ Department (CID), FCT Police Command, Abuja concluded that ‘there is no iota of truth in the allegations as contained in the petition which the complainant (Obasi) lodged before the commissioner of police, FCT Command, Abuja. The allegation is divisionary, misleading and fraudulent. The petitioner has been dodging police arrest/invitation since his antics was discovered. Since the complainant is already standing trial over the fraud committed against the suspect (Eugene(, he cannot be arraigned over the same matter to avoid a double jeopardy.
However, he will soon be arraigned before a competent court for giving false information to the police. This is for your information please.’
With this latest development, it is clear that it is Obasi who has been crying foul that the long arm of the law was reaching out to not Eugene Ogu who he had accused of fraud, cheating, forgery, defamation and presenting false information to the police.
