Ukraine Embassy Turns Students Visa To Meal Ticket …Demands N250,000 bribe from applicants
If you think bribery and corruption as well as other vices are exclusive preserve of Nigerians, then read this. Some foreign embassies in Nigeria are fast catching up the bug which has turned Nigeria into one of the most corrupt nations the world over if feelers emanating from the Embassy of Ukraine are anything to go by.
Global News reliably learnt that the Ukraine Embassy has been turned a visa racketeering point where officials make brisk income extorting monies from those seeking Ukrainian visas.
It was gathered that individuals who are applying for students’ visas are blatantly denied such until they are able to “settle”. Recently, a source scooped that at the Ukraine embassy in the Federal Capital territory, Abuja, an applicant who wants to study in Ukraine was forced to pay as much as N250,000 for student’s visa before he could be issued one.
We further learnt that what gave rise to the extortion from embassy staffers is the fact that the number of Nigerians trooping to the country to pursue education has swollen in recent times due to its improved standard in education when compared to Nigeria’s. The pressure is much on the students because they want to leave Nigeria in a hurry as the standard of education is constantly on the downward slide.
A source who refused disclosing his identity said he has been applying for visa for the past five years and a friend in Ukraine asked him to pay a certain amount of money to aid the processing but till this moment, he has not heard anything about it and the money was not refunded.
